Over 1.9 million internally displaced persons are living at internally displaced people (IDP) camps as a result from recent fighting and on-going military operations against the Taliban. Pakistani forces battled militants in tribal areas after vowing an full assault on a Taliban chief in the lawless Afghan border region known to be an Al-Qaeda hideout. In the cleared areas such as Buner many families are waiting to return but are currently still waiting for basic facilities like electricity and water before most leave the camps. Jessica Alba United Way Donation Following Billboard Vandalism

Jessica Alba has made a donation to the United Way in Oklahoma City, just days after she escaped criminal charges for attaching a protest poster to one of the charity’s billboards. Jessica spent a month in Oklahoma City filming the upcoming movie The Killer Inside Me earlier this year. Last week, the Fantastic Four star, 28, publicly apologized for peppering Downtown OKC with posters aimed at raising awareness about the declining population of Great White Sharks. Police have said she will not face criminal charges for the property damage. The United Way of Central Oklahoma announced Jessica’s donation on Thursday, according to The Associated Press . Charity spokeswoman Erin Brewer says Jessica’s lawyer asked the charity not to disclose the amount, but added that the star qualified for a program that recognizes donors who give $500 or more. The charity has deemed the figure “generousâ€ and “appropriate.â€

viewed as a burden,” she said. “They are the survivors. And they can
bring those qualities to the service of their communities and the

Christina Applegate Smoking

christina applegate smoking 1 Christina Applegate Smoking

Christina Applegate was in Italy enjoying some rest and relaxation, and smoking!

You might recall Applegate had a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer, so she opted for the surgery rather than die as her mother did. In August of 2008 after choosing to have the surgery Applegate said:

"I didn’t want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything."

"I just wanted to kind of get rid of this whole thing for me," she said of the prophylactic double mastectomy. "This was the choice that I made and it was a tough one.

"My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy."

Applegate, the 36-year-old star, who will return to work on her ABC sitcom Samantha Who? in mid-September, is now "absolutely 100 percent clear and clean" of cancer and planning reconstructive surgery.

"I’m going to have cute b@@bs ’til I’m 90, so there’s that," she joked. "I’ll have the best b@@bs in the nursing home. I’ll be the envy of all the ladies around the bridge table."

The decision was an emotional one.

"Sometimes, you know, I cry," she said. "And sometimes I scream. And I get really angry. And I get really upset, you know, into wallowing in self-pity sometimes. And I think that it’s all part of the healing."

Applegate said she gained insight into the disease from her mom, Nancy Priddy, a repeat breast cancer survivor.

"She’s been sort of this quiet warrior in the back and has been a great support, and just telling me that I was going to be OK," she said. "And I knew I was going to be OK. I’ve watched her.

"I’ve watched her have a mastectomy, and then I’ve watched her go through two years of chemotherapy and eight surgeries and a hysterectomy," Applegate added. "I’ve watched this woman survive both those things. So, for me, there was always that sense that I was going to be OK, no matter what."

The actress’ cancer was discovered earlier this year during a follow-up exam.

"If this had been caught a year from now, or when I was 40, I probably wouldn’t be able to live through this."

Applegate had reconstructive surgery to make her chest look close to normal. She beat breast cancer, so why is Applegate risking lung cancer by smoking. Don’t waste your second chance.
